Stronghold Flea Treatment

Stronghold Flea TreatmentStronghold flea treatment affects the entire life cycle of a flea, killing both adult fleas and also affecting the eggs and larvae in the environment.  Most flea products of this type are not at all effective against the eggs and larvae which are already growing on the carpet, in the garden or in the bedding of your pet.  However, Stronghold flea treatment works by accessing the sebaceous glands which are found in the skin, affecting parasites which bite the skin but also remaining in the dead skin which falls off your pet.  This means that as the flea larvae grow, when they come across the dead skin from your pet to feed off, they will be killed as well.

Stronghold flea treatment contains Selamectin, which also affects internal parasites such as heartworm, starting to work after about two days, and lasting for approximately thirty days after first application.  To apply the treatment, you simply have to rub it into the skin, parting the fur so that it goes all the way down, and from there it will enter the bloodstream and glands.  The best place to do this is around the shoulder blades, as this is usually where animals are afflicted with fleas the most, and also because they cannot reach there to lick the formula off.

Heartworm can be fatal if left untreated, so it is important to combat the affliction as soon as it is diagnosed, and as fleas can also carry diseases the same goes for them.  A product such as Stronghold flea treatment is important for this reason, but as always prevention is better than cure.  In order to give your pet the best chance of not getting fleas, or other parasites, the best way is to keep them healthy.  This means providing them a good diet, plenty of exercise and sanitary living environments.  Parasites tend to attack unhealthy, weak animals so if your pet is healthy and happy, they have less chance of contracting an infestation of parasites.  For expert advice on how to achieve this you should talk to your vet, or a professional pest controller.

It is impossible to completely control which animals will be affected by fleas, however, as they may visit areas or households which have fleas.  Even so, however, the cleaner the normal environment, and the healthier the pet is to begin with, the less serious any outbreak is likely to be.  If it is not a serious outbreak of fleas, you might prefer to consider non-chemical or natural options as chemical solutions always have chance of producing unwanted side effects or allergic reactions.  Overall, however, if it is a bad infestation Stronghold flea treatment is a good option to deal with it.
