Heartworm flea treatment attacks and prevents both the outbreak of fleas and heartworm, as well as other types of worm.  It is produced by Bayer, and is known as Advantage Multi due to the multiple pests it destroys.  If used every month, it will not only kill fleas and other pests, but also stop them from coming back again, which is always one of the main challenges of pest control.

It comes in “spot on” form, which means that you only have to treat the most affected areas, not the whole pet.  The place which is most often worst affected, and therefore the best place to use the heartworm flea treatment, is at the base of the skull, just around the shoulder blades.  This is maybe the only place that cats and dogs cannot lick, of course.

It is important to know what flea treatments are made from as some of them can be dangerous.  Heartworm flea treatment manufactured by Bayer is made from Moxidctin and Imidacloprid, which it is claimed are safe products.  Of course allergies can be contracted from most products, and to be sure that your pet is going to be safe from a course of treatment it is best to contact a professional pest controller or veterinarian.

Whether you choose heartworm flea treatment or not, however, to effectively combat an infestation of fleas you have to properly treat your carpets, the pet’s bedding and the garden.  If you fail to do this, then the eggs, larvae and pupae which grow in these places will soon develop into adult fleas and attack your pet again, producing more fleas and restarting the whole process.  Even if you are giving a monthly application, prevention is better than cure so it will be better for your pet if you can eradicate the flea threat completely rather than having to treat it every time it comes back.

Generally, in fact, the best way to prevent your pet from getting fleas in the first place, as well as keeping a clean living environment, is to keep your pet healthy.  That means giving them a good diet, allowing them plenty of exercise and making sure they do not have an overly stressful life.  The do not have to worry about working, education, or the state of the economy of course!  But it is important to make sure that if there is anything that is bothering them, then it is not left unresolved for too long – mostly pets just like to live in a happy household.  The reason this is important for flea infestations is that parasites tend to attack the weakest, most unhealthy animals, so if your pet is happy and healthy then they are less likely to contract fleas.

Fleas can be picked up from place outside your control, however, so you will not be able to be sure that your pet will never get fleas, unless you don’t let them leave the house, and never let anyone else’s pets in!  Therefore you cannot completely eradicate the need for products such as heartworm flea treatment.
