There is always a worry, with anything which doesn’t cost any money, that you are going to get what you pay for. That doesn’t have to be the case though; sometimes homemade recipes are the best recipes. If you have an apple tree, there’s no reason that your apples should be any worse than apples you buy. But if you’re really concerned about that, then just imagine that you’re an entrepreneur inventing a flea treatment and once you have one, you can sell it to other people – and you can make it as expensive as you want! Just because for you it is a free flea treatment, it doesn’t mean it has to be for everyone else!
There, so now that you’re (hopefully) convinced that just because you didn’t have to pay for it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily less effective, there’s something you should probably know... er, well it’s not going to be as effective. Not unless you’re a chemist with a laboratory and your great grandmother was a whizz with a Bunsen burner and a test tube. Chemicals are more effective, they’re more damaging – that’s what they were designed for, like a clock was designed to keep time. But that doesn’t meant that, if you know how to use it, a stick stuck in the ground can’t do you just as well as a sundial... depending on how accurate you need it to be, of course. But when was the last time you needed to be accurate to the second? The point is that yes, chemicals will get rid of fleas quicker and more efficiently, but if you do it yourself then it’s free, it’s safe and it’s sustainable.
Well, that’s enough of trying to convince you to use free flea treatment, you’re reading the article already I suppose there’s a decent chance that you’re interested in it. So what are the free flea treatments available? Well, there are certain types of oils that fleas don’t like the smell of that can be found on the barks of certain trees. One thing you could do, then, is gather some bark off trees that contain pennyroyal and tea tree oils and rub them on the fur of your pet. It is possible that they will have an allergic reaction, however, so be watchful at first. If you put the bark close to the sleeping area of your pet that will also help to keep the fleas away.
Something else they don’t like the smell of, and this could be easier to get hold of, is citrus peels. Again, rub them on your pet’s fur and put the peels around the house, most importantly close to the bedding of your pet. Another way you can use this dislike of citrus fruits fleas have is to give your pet a bath, and then as a final rinse use water that you have squeezed lemon juice into and let your pet air dry.
Other than that, the best free flea treatment is just keeping their living and sleeping area clean, it is the most important thing you can do. For more information on natural and free flea treatments look at “holistic flea treatment”.
