Flea Treatments for your House- How to Keep Your House Flea Free

Flea Treatments for your HouseThere are a number of flea treatments for your house that you can use.  In a way, they are even more important than treating your pet’s actual flea infestation.  The reason for this, as explained in the “flea lifecycle” section, is that it is only adult fleas that live on your pet.  If you only get rid of the adult fleas, the eggs and larvae on the carpet will soon hatch, grow, become adult fleas and again attack your pet.  Using flea treatments for your house, as well as other main environments in which your pet lives, is therefore essential to completely eradicate the infestation and the best way to make sure your pets never contract fleas in the first place.

The simplest form of the flea treatments for your house is of course vacuuming.  That will take care of all of the development stages of the flea’s lifecycle which are lying in wait to become adult fleas.  If you are totally successful in this regard, then even if you did not deal with the adult fleas infesting your pet at all, they would die off in one generation.  There is one mistake people sometimes make in this regard, however, and that is not to empty the vacuum cleaner as soon as they have finished hoovering, giving the proto-fleas the perfect environment to come of age and then escape.  Instead, as soon as you have completed the vacuuming, the contents of the bag should be emptied into a plastic bag, sealed and taken outside in order to be removed to the dump as soon as possible.

If simply vacuuming does not prove effective, another of the flea treatments for your house that you can try is a fogger.  If you can avoid having to fill your house with this toxic material then that would be better of course, however it does prove a good option under certain circumstances.  Remember to keep all people and pets out of the area that the insecticide is working on, and cover any food.  Also, two things to look out for when considering insecticides are whether they attack the developmental stages of fleas, as if they only attack the adults they will be of little use.  The other main consideration is the amount of area they will cover.  Depending on the size of your house you may need multiple foggers.  For best results, contact a professional to take care of the problem.

It is also important to wash all clothing and bedding, as well as removable furniture covers.  For more advice on slightly more eccentric flea treatments for your house, see the section on “holistic flea treatment”.
