Flea treatment drops can be used as an alternative to tablets, baths, shampoos and sprays. By focusing on the most affected areas, flea treatment drops are an efficient as well as effective way of tackling a flea infestation.
Although easier, arguably, then flea baths and feeding tablets to potentially reluctant pets, flea treatment drops come with their own disadvantages however. For one thing, the areas that the flea treatment drops have been applied to should not be touched or stroked, which may be a problem for young children. Although, obviously when a pet is infested with fleas it is always a good idea to keep them away from children as much as possible so as not to spread the problem. However, it is especially important when flea treatment drops have been applied.
Another point to take into consideration is that flea treatment drops do not work fast, and will require three or four repeat applications before results are seen. Having said that, it is an effective treatment and your pet will begin to feel better after three or four days.
If you decide on using flea treatment drops, look for the brands Adams and Bio Spot Gentle Touch. Their products can be found on the internet and good stores. The way they work is by disrupting the breeding process of fleas, using an insect growth regulator (IGR) as well as adulticides, which kill the adult fleas. It is not enough, however, whichever form of flea treatment you use, whether it is flea treatment drops or not, to simply treat the infected skin or fur. In order to eradicate the infestation, the living area must also be cleaned, which means cleaning the carpets and sleeping area used by the infected party, applying chemicals which will kill the fleas. When that is done, it is only necessary to vacuum the dead fleas up. Animal waste must also be disposed of in the proper way.
As mentioned, flea treatment drops are only one of a variety of methods to treat a flea infestation, but it is important to remember that products should not be mixed as there is a possibility that adverse reactions will result. Remember, in fact, to follow all instructions which come with whichever form of flea treatment you choose, whether they be flea treatment drops or not.
Infestations of fleas on pets is almost inevitable, however there are preventative measures you can take to make sure your pet has the best chance of not having to suffer the discomfort and danger of a flea infestation. See the section on preventing outbreaks of fleas for more information.
