There are many factors to consider when comparing flea treatment.  The price, whether your pet can tolerate water, if it has any allergies, how quickly you need the infestation gone, whether you are willing to use chemicals or are determined to use natural methods, the list is practically endless. The exact combination of methods that will be right in one case will not necessarily be right in another, so when comparing flea treatments it is not really possible to say that one is the best, and one is the worst – it all depends on what you are looking for.

Having said that, of course, this article is going to be comparing flea treatments.  Not in the manner of saying which one is better, however, just in terms of giving some basic facts, and the kind of thing to look out for when comparing flea treatments. 

They are amongst the most common treatment for fleas used by people so you can be relatively sure that they work.  They are also all on-going programs that are intended to keep fleas away from your pet, not just get rid of them once they are there.

The first is Program, which is used by cat owners mostly and will not be totally effective in getting rid of an infestation as adult fleas are not killed by it.  It is a tablet and must be administered once every month, and is very good at not allowing fleas to come back.

Sentinel Flavour tablets, similarly, don’t kill adult fleas but will prevent a flea infestation from re-occurring once it has been eradicated.   Roundworm, hookworm and whipworm are among the other infestations that it helps to keep your pet free of, however a number of pet owners prefer topical medication to this product.  It is mainly for dogs.

The last product to be reviewed here is Advantage, which unlike the other two is a chemical not a tablet.  It must be applied every month and is very effective, getting rid of fleas within twelve hours, however the exposure to chemicals may not be good for your pet.  In fact, your vet will have to prescribe this treatment and internal medicine can often be more effective.

There are obviously far more products that should be considered when comparing flea treatment, however hopefully this will give you an idea of some of the things you could be looking out for.
