The main Bayer flea treatment is called Advantage and comes in two different forms, one suitable for cats and the other for dogs. It is a topical formula, coming in different dosage ranges depending on how big your pet is.
The Advantage product claims some impressive achievements, such as eliminating flea bites within five minutes of application, killing between 98% and 100% of fleas on your pet within 12 hours, killing the larvae which come into contact with your pet once the Bayer flea treatment has been applied, killing any and all chewing lice on your pet within a week, and being waterproof. It requires reapplication every month to continue being effective.
Once the fleas are killed, however, as long as they have also been removed from the environment your pet lives in then they should not return, and reapplication should not be necessary. To remove the fleas and eggs, larvae and pupae that will soon become fleas in the pet’s living environment you should hoover the carpets, clean bedding, and treat the garden for fleas. Whether you choose further chemical means to do this or natural methods is up to you, but if you do not make sure the environment is clean then the fleas will keep coming back and you will have to keep applying the Bayer flea treatment.
When you are applying the formula, remember to pull back the fur so that it goes directly on the skin, where the fleas will be biting. It is also a good idea to apply the treatment between the shoulder blades, just behind the head, so that your pet cannot lick it off. This is also where the main infestation of fleas is likely to be found.
Before taking a decision on the course of action you are going to use to combat your pet’s flea problem, it is best to discuss it with a professional pest controller, or vet. Different products are best for different animals, and they may recommend Bayer flea treatment or they may not. It is usually better to use natural methods of flea control if at all possible.
