Advantix Flea Treatment

Advantix Flea TreatmentAdvantix flea treatments comes in the form of a topical formula, to be applied to the surface of your pet once a month.  It will work against not only fleas but mosquitoes and ticks as well, and has the advantage that it means no toxins have to be ingested in the form of a tablet.  The treatment does contain chemicals, however there are few known side effects and has been shown to be a largely safe product.  It is a good idea to get into the habit of checking the ingredients of the products you buy, and checking to see if they are any that are harmful, because no company is going to tell you that they are selling a product which is going to be harmful.  For Advantix, the primary ingredients are permethrin and imidacloprid, and one thing you should know about permethrin is that it is harmful to cats.  Advantix does say the treatment is for dogs exclusively, but in case you thought it might be okay to use on cats, it is not.

The formula works not only by killing the adult fleas but by breaking the life cycle by affecting the eggs and larvae as well.  Even so, no flea treatment is complete without treating the living environment of the affected animal as this is where the flea eggs hatch, and the fleas grow to maturity.  Without vacuuming the carpets and cleaning the bedding and garden, for instance, then the flea problem will immediately return.

Advantix flea treatment does not only kill fleas, however, it also repels them.  The same is true of mosquitoes and ticks.  It does this by paralysing their mouths, making them unable to bite and suck blood anymore, immediately getting rid of the problem.  It only has to be applied to the worst affected areas, usually around the dog’s shoulder blades, as it does not have to get to all the fleas straight away, but rather be there when the fleas try to bite.  It’s a bit like rat poison for fleas.  You don’t have to worry about your dog getting wet, however, as Advantix flea treatment is water proof.

The protection provided by Advantix flea treatment should keep your dog free of fleas for as long as you are using it.  Remember, however, to keep it away from cats.
